Do the 25 guests include the birthday child and/or adults?
Yes, the 25 guests included in the price is the total number, including the birthday child, siblings, parents, adults and children (two years and under are free).
Can we bring more than 25 guests?
Due to the space available as well as health and safety concerns, birthday parties are limited to 25 guests.
Do members get a discount?
Yes, Engage and Inspire members get a 10% discount on the base party. Membership must be valid at the time of party booking to receive the discount.
What if some of the guests have zoo passes?
Birthday parties are sold as a group package, and the price is not affected if some of the guests have passes or memberships.
Does the party include any behind-the-scenes or animal encounters?
Birthday parties do not include any behind-the-scenes access or animal encounters at this time. There is the option of adding an animal visit to your party for a $75 fee.
Can we book a birthday party for a child turning 1 or 2?
At this time, we are not able to accommodate birthday parties for children turning ages 1 and 2.
When can we book?
Birthday parties can be booked up to three months in advance and must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance.
What about winter birthdays?
Our birthday party programs run Saturdays and Sundays year-round! Although it might be cold outside, we still have lots of indoor activities to keep everyone “edutained.” Winter parties can still include a tour or other outdoor activities so we recommend that everyone dresses weather appropriate.
Where do guests park?
Birthday party guests should park in the North Parking lot and enter through the North Entrance. Please note that parking is not included in your birthday package; the cost is $10 per vehicle daily. Parking can be paid for upon arrival or departure from the zoo. Any attendees with a valid Engage or Inspire membership may use their pass for parking access.
May we bring our own food?
No outside food is permitted except for birthday cake or cupcakes. In order to make the most of your time in the party room, if you have not selected the Cake & Presents activity then you will be required to do cake on grounds (outside of the room) after the party has concluded. Please note that we do not have refrigeration facilities available for use in our party rooms so cake must be able to withstand room temperature.
What food can we order?
Menu options are as follows:
- Jumbo all-beef hot dog meal box - $9.00
- Plant eater kid’s meal box - $9.00 (veggie wrap)
- Meat eater kid’s meal box - $9.00 (ham and swiss wrap)
- Fruit cup - $5.00
- Veggie cup - $5.00
- Assorted chips - $2.00
- Baking platter (serves 10) - $35.00 (includes assorted muffins, banana bread and our signature cinnamon sugar mini donuts)
- Bottled water - $3.50
- Oasis juice box - $1.75 (apple or wild berry)
- Starbucks coffee cambro (10 cups) - $28.00
Please note that these prices do not include GST. Food orders must be placed a minimum of one week before the party. You are welcome to bring containers for any leftover food.
*If you order more than $35 worth of food, you must select the dedicated food time as one of your activities. If you order $35 or less you may enjoy your food as snacks throughout the party without a dedicated time to eat, or you may take the food with you to enjoy after your time in the party room has concluded.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your booking fee includes a non-refundable $50.00 processing fee. If you cancel three or more weeks prior to the party, the balance will be refunded to your credit card. If you cancel within three weeks of the party, there is no refund.
Can I change the date/time once I have already booked?
There will be a $50 administration fee to change the date or time of your party.
Can we come in early or stay at the zoo after the party?
Yes, your birthday party package includes admission to the zoo for you and your guests. You may enter the zoo before the party and/or stay after the party to enjoy the zoo. Please note that you will not be able to access the party room before the party start time and you must take all belongings with you from the room at the end of the party.
Can we bring decorations?
We will supply a large “Happy Birthday” banner as well as tablecloths. You are welcome to bring additional decorations but none that need to be attached to the walls or ceiling. We are not able to permit early access to the party room so you will need to put up your decorations in the first few minutes of the party. Please note that balloons, piñatas, confetti and balls of any kind are not permitted on zoo grounds and are therefore not permitted in party rooms.
What about gift bags?
Calgary Zoo gift bags are available for $15 each, plus GST. Bags must be ordered at least one week before the party.
Our birthday party gift bag includes*:
- Calgary Zoo reusable bottle
- Large size lollipop
- Small animal stuffy
*If an item is out of stock it will be replaced with an item of equal value.
If I purchase a membership after I’ve purchased a birthday party will I still be eligible to receive the 10% member’s discount?
Unfortunately, we are unable to apply the discount as all Calgary Zoo education programs require an active membership at the time of purchase in order to receive 10% off.
