Animal Viewing Impacts & Building Closures

The Penguin Walk, presented by WestJet, has been cancelled for February 18th, due to temperatures outside of the walk parameters.

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will close at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26th, as we host our annual celebration in recognition of employees who have achieved a service milestone.

Land of Lemurs Walkthrough & Outdoor Gorilla Amphitheatre: The two outdoor animal viewing areas are closed for the season. Lemurs and gorillas will be viewable in their indoor habitats.

African Savannah Yard: Our Hartmann’s mountain zebras and ostriches are off-view  while we complete exciting upgrades in the African Savannah Yard, including the construction of a new Savannah Barn for the animals. Our giraffe tower will continue to be viewable throughout the project.

Calling all photographers!

FOCUSED, presented by The Camera Store, gives shutterbugs (ages 16+) special early access to Wild Canada before the zoo opens its doors, from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1st. Plus, your exclusive access to Wild Canada continues until 10:00 a.m.! You’ll capture stunning photographs of iconic wildlife, ranging from our resident polar bear ‘Siku’ to North American river otters and everything in between. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome.

The zoo’s Animal Care, Health & Welfare team are thrilled to share their passion for the animals they love and care for with our FOCUSED ticket holders, throughout the event they will be creating special enrichment and feeding opportunities for you to photograph. Your ticket includes zoo admission, so feel free to explore the rest of the zoo grounds after your exclusive access to Wild Canada.

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. (includes day admission after the event). ‘Siku’, the polar bear, will not be on habitat until 8:30 a.m.
