Welcome, ‘Hiiro’

What’s better than a celebrity couple? A royal couple!

We’re thrilled to welcome our female red-crowned crane ‘Ruby’ back to zoo grounds along with her new habitat-mate, male ‘Hiiro’. In August, Ruby temporarily moved to our offsite Wildlife Conservation Centre (WCC) to meet Hiiro for the first time. Our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team tells us that the pair got along like – well, like birds of a feather!

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species classifies red-crowned cranes as Endangered. We’re proud to be part of a Species Survival Plan (SSP) that is working to help maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations of this remarkable species under human care.

Stop by Exploration Asia to see these two (hopefully!) lovebirds and welcome Hiiro to his new home!
