Rough-Scaled Plated Lizards
At home in nooks and crannies
Rough-scaled plated lizards are known for the rough scales on their heads, and the keels – ridged scales, on their backs. Across the length of their bodies, these lizards have deep grooves which are not covered by scales. These grooves allow the lizard to expand – a useful adaptation for females carrying eggs and for lizards who need to wedge themselves into a crevice to escape a predator.
